Placing Our Nation in God’s Hands: A Reflection on the Novena’s Opening Prayer
Novena for Peace, Unity, and Wisdom in Leadership To be prayed from January 11 to January 19, 2025, leading up to the presidential inauguration.
Opening Prayer (to be prayed daily)
Heavenly Father, we place our nation and its leaders in your hands. You are the source of all wisdom, justice, and love. As we pray this novena, we ask that you guide us as your people to be instruments of peace, unity, and hope. Strengthen our faith and help us to seek your will in all things. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
The opening prayer of the Novena for Peace, Unity, and Wisdom in Leadership reminds us of our reliance on God’s providence, especially during moments of transition and uncertainty. As we approach the presidential inauguration, this prayer places the weight of leadership and governance challenges in the hands of the One who holds all wisdom, justice, and love.
The prayer begins with an act of trust: “Heavenly Father, we place our nation and its leaders in your hands.” This statement acknowledges that while human efforts are necessary, proper guidance and transformation come from God. It invites us to surrender control and trust in His perfect plan, even when the future feels uncertain or divided.
Calling God the “source of all wisdom, justice, and love” is a declaration of faith and a reminder of what we seek in our leaders. It challenges us to reflect on whether we, as individuals and communities, embody these virtues in our own lives. Are we peace, unity, and hope instruments, or do we contribute to division and discord?
The prayer also urges us to “seek your will in all things.” This is no small task. It requires humility to set aside our preferences and agendas and discern what aligns with God’s purpose for our nation and the world.
Finally, this prayer is a call to action. As we pray for our leaders, we must also take responsibility for being agents of change. Strengthening our faith is not passive; it demands a daily commitment to living out the peace, unity, and hope we pray for.
In these nine days, we open our hearts to God’s grace, trusting that God will work through us to heal divisions and inspire wisdom in our leaders. Prayer has the power to transform the nation and each of us.
